sunday

what a great weekend.
(un)fortunately i have an interview tomorrow morning which i must stay up all night preparing for. but, i'm going to home sweet home (a spot on chrystie st) for a sick lineup instead. a decision i will regret in three months when i'm facedown in a gutter.

50 cent is the future

50 cent keeps a close eye on what he puts into his body: no alcohol, lots of vitaminwater, and the occasional bullet. in 2004 he obtained a minority equity stake in energy brands, inc., aka glaceau, in return for his representation of vitaminwater and related products. when coca-cola announced its $4.1B acquisition of glaceau in q3 of this year, 50 netted $100M from the deal alone.

the deathly hallows

believe it or not, i finished harry potter 7. between all the going out on rooftops, international football in pubs, trips to the gym with my mother, outdoor meals with college friends, and reading this book, i have gotten about four hours of sleep since thursday evening. unfortunately i have an interview tomorrow which i must now prepare for.

bitches

what is intimacy? is it a feeling or a situation? i guess that depends on whether only one person in a scenario enjoys it. in the great maelstrom of life a person looks for someone he can share secrets with. deep secrets, not "i tripped today and i felt so stupid" but deep dark haunting secrets he can't tell his parents or childhood friends or perhaps even his brother. could intimacy ever be uneven and one-sided with a special person? when one person truly and genuinely believed that real intimacy existed, and the other didn't? probably.

a girl i used to see, helga, believe it or not, buzzed her hair. now she looks like a half-asian demi moore from g.i. jane. luckily for her (and my respect for her) she has very feminine features so there aren't the awkard problems of androgyny.
still... what the fuck.

the city is best during the summer. i have been roaming around manhattan for the last month or so with very few responsibilities. the best part has got to be the conversations. i am having so many amazing conversations with brilliant people at fantastic rooftop bars with scintillating views. i wish i remembered more of them.

harvard kid dies

a member of our graduating class died friday morning in his native san juan. i didn't know him, but i was friends with his blockmates. they were all great guys and hard partiers. he died in a car crash on la avenida ashford, a 2 mile street that crosses from puerta de tierra (where we stay) through the posh condado casino district and onward to santurce. my brother and i have walked its entire length several times between the caribe hilton and a small italian place at the far end of ashford. they serve medallas, presidentes, negra modelos, and also great specialty pizzas on those platters that lift the pizza at least twelve inches off the table. to me san juan is a quiet city all over, the kind of place that's summer all year around. not just the sun and the surf, but the attitude and mentality associated with the place. although i'm sure even in condado there are thousands of waitresses trying to scrape together a living. spending long stretches of their lives in the struggle. an article in el nuevo dia said that he lost control of his car at 5am friday morning on the condado stretch of ashford. i'm sure he was completely mashed at the time. 5am is probably one of the worst times of the day.

roald dahl - madame rosette

"He was a young concentrator, this Stuffy; an intense athletic concentrator who moved toward what he wanted in a dead straight line. He took hold of winding roads and carefully he made them straight, then he moved over them with great speed and nothing stopped him."
