russian party
a week ago:
i went with vadim and also yemi to a shitty little dunster room, super cozy, like a furnished cell in the gulag. i remember seeing that it was 2:57AM on a weird cat clock sitting on the mantle. the room was filled with a bunch of russians - blondes, brunettes, siberians, and a bunch of russian mafia types. yemi and i were the only nons. all of a sudden a kid shouted and everyone broke off their russian discussians to pass around a handle of smirnoff and a jar of mini pickles. everyone took a quick shot out of these test tube glasses and then ate a pickle. despite sounding super weird, it tasted amazing. five or six of those were sprinkled throughout the hour or so we were there, soundtracked by something touted as "russian hip-hop" despite bearing a great resemblance to eurotrash pop. i was speaking with a grad student from minsk named sasha when a bunch of white wigs, more white mullets than founding fathers, were passed around. now i have a bunch of pictures on yemi's telephone of me in a white wig. other successes include eating this candy called "squirrel nuts" which sounded strange but tasted great.
